After more than two years since the outbreak of the glorious Syrian revolution — during which the Syrian people have demonstrated the highest forms of sacrifice and selflessness in the name of God, freedom, and dignity — the nation now stands closer than ever to achieving the revolution’s goals of building a modern, just, and inclusive Syrian national state. This progress would not have been possible without the legendary resilience of a people who have cherished liberty and dignity and mastered the love of their homeland. However, this path has not been without its flaws and obstacles, which have, to some extent, delayed the desired victory. These shortcomings are largely attributed to the limited political vision of the Syrian opposition, its insufficient engagement with developments on the ground, and the dispersal of its efforts and resources in disregard of on-the-ground realities. Among these missteps is the neglect of the sectarian issue — its impact on the course of events and its potential to evolve into a chronic threat to Syrian society and civil peace. The prolongation of the crisis can also be attributed to international and regional power struggles, which have sought to turn the conflict into a tool for the destruction of Syria — both its land and its people — by allowing the criminal regime to deploy all means of violence against the Syrian people while denying the revolutionaries any genuine support.
We call for the convening of the Fifth Conference for the workshop, with hope and optimism in the ability of the Syrian people to overcome their crises and achieve their aspirations, God willing.
