نور المالكي

Nouri al-Maliki, the American Chess King

Nouri Kamil Muhammad Hasan Abu al-Mahasin al-Maliki (born June 20, 1950) was the former Prime Minister of Iraq from 2006 to 2014. He also served as the former Vice President of Iraq starting from September 9

He served as the Vice President of Iraq from 2014 until August 11, 2015, and is the Secretary-General of the Islamic Dawa Party.
Al-Maliki and the Iraqi transitional government successfully took the constitutional oath on May 20, 2006. He held the position of Prime Minister for two terms, and during his second term, he also assumed the roles of Acting Minister of the Interior, Minister of Defense, and National Security.
Al-Maliki began his political life as a Shiite opposition figure during the regime of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein in the late 1970s. He fled the death sentence to Syria, and in 1982, he moved to Iran before returning to Syria due to disagreements. During his time abroad, he became one of the prominent leaders of the Islamic Dawa Party, coordinating activities against Saddam Hussein and establishing ties with Iranian officials who sought to overthrow him. Al-Maliki also collaborated with the United States and the coalition forces in Iraq after their withdrawal at the end of 2011. Following a series of military defeats at the hands of ISIS and local tribes in northern Iraq, U.S. officials stated that al-Maliki should step down from the position of Prime Minister. On August 14, 2014, he announced that he would not run for the position of Prime Minister of Iraq.
