The Hague Center for Pursuing Criminals Against Humanity and Achieving Justice
1) Who We Are:
The Hague Center for Pursuing Criminals Against Humanity and Achieving Justice is a specialized human rights and legal center, emanating from the International Academy for Science and Studies in The Hague, licensed in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The center brings together a distinguished group of experts, lawyers, and human rights defenders. It relies on the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, international human rights law, and international humanitarian law as fundamental references in its work.
2) Vision of the Center:
The formation of a media and communication support team that works to promote the objectives upon which the center was founded, including advocating for truth, supporting human rights and freedoms, particularly in the Middle East, exposing corruption and oppression by officials, and disseminating this information in both local and international forums. The aim is to create a general atmosphere that supports just causes at all available levels.
3) Philosophy of the Center:
The philosophy of the center is based on uncovering and documenting the violations faced by individuals and groups, with a particular focus on obtaining incriminating documents against war criminals of the Syrian regime who have targeted their own people. It involves addressing media and journalistic institutions with the gathered evidence, addressing it legally, conducting studies, and issuing statements and media reports at specified intervals, or urgently when necessary.
4) Objectives of the Center:
– Providing media support for cases of human rights violations.
– Opening communication channels and clarifying positions and perspectives with human rights organizations worldwide, ensuring the provision of incriminating evidence against the crimes of authoritarian and corrupt regimes.
– Media pressure through activities, events, and statements on the website.
– Building relationships with relevant media, journalistic, and human rights institutions.
5) Why Now:
In light of the grave and systematic human rights violations committed by the ruling regime in Syria against defenseless civilians, in a deliberate and large-scale manner targeting specific groups of the population, through actions that are internationally prohibited and recognized under the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, a number of Syrian human rights defenders, in collaboration with a group of Arab lawyers and international experts, were prompted to establish this center. The goal is to pursue all those involved in committing crimes against humanity against the Syrian people and bring them before the competent international judiciary, ensuring that they do not escape justice.
6) Work Mechanism:
The center, through its collaboration with international experts, seeks to document the crimes against humanity committed in Syria since the beginning of the peaceful protests in mid-March 2011, specifically, as well as crimes committed against innocent individuals, vulnerable groups, communities, and populations in general.
The center will cooperate with all entities that possess documented evidence of crimes against humanity committed against Syrian citizens. It will work on documenting these crimes in order to pursue all those responsible for committing them and bring them before the International Criminal Court.
